Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
So Roger's words to me when I said I was starting a Caring Bridge site, "I don't need that. There are a lot of people with much worse medical problems."
Here's the story...Sunday afternoon Roger was trimming tree branches  in the back yard,. He was on a ladder with a chain saw and we thought stable & safe - NOT!  One of the branches fell and knocked the ladder and him down (10 feet). He landed on his face. I was there.  He was unresponsive but breathing.  I ran to get my phone and called 911.  By the time the ambulance arrived he was somewhat responsive and knew his name but not much else.  Thankfully he could move his extremities. He went to Regions ED.  Ben drove me there and when we arrived his cognition was pretty much back at baseline.  After multiple scans we learned he had broken his mandible and a cheek bone, had a concussion and a gash to his jaw but that was it.  It could have been so much worse.  He was able to come home Sunday night after 8 hours in the ED.  Had some nausea but rested well.
Initially, the plan was for conservative treatment to the mandible but the facial surgeon called Monday AM and after reviewing X-rays they've decided on surgery, which will be Tuesday AM.
I'm so thankful he is with me and minimally injured. Bones will heal.  We hope to file this under the, "Bad decisions make great stories." file some day.
