A little bit of background on the days leading up to our visit to Houston...
Rodney has been feeling tired and experiencing pain in his sternum and burning in his stomach. What we thought to be an ulcer in his stomach, turned out to be what we feared most of all.
Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer last week. The cancer has spread to his liver. The very day that we met with his GI Specialist to review the results of the pathology reports and learned of his diagnosis, we began the path forward to MD Anderson to find out HOW he is going to overcome this horrible disease. Dad met with his team of healthcare providers Thursday evening (August 2nd), and met his oncologist, Dr. Ajani. Dr. Ajani feels that he would be a great candidate for a trial treatment/study at MD Anderson. This treatment will consist of chemotherapy and immunology drugs, given together, every two weeks. Because this treatment is still in a “trial phase”, it will have to be administered in Houston, so mom and dad will be commuting back and forth for now.
Dad is as strong and feisty as ever and "hasn't lost a fight yet". He has a very tough road ahead and we are asking all of you to keep him in your prayers.
