My Last Cheeseburger for a While

On Friday, September 15, 2017  I was forced to fast all day in preparation for a 2:45pm “endoscopy”, a medical procedure that examines the GI tract. Arriving at the doctor’s office I was famished. All I could think about was having a cheeseburger and fries after it was over, which couldn’t happen soon enough. After the short procedure, the doctor came out to speak with Diana and me about what she saw. She gave us the shocking news that she found a cancerous tumor in my upper stomach (the Fundus). Additional tests, a change to a clean nutritional diet, and an aggressive treatment plan would be my future, she said.

I was still groggy from the anesthesia, but the implications were not lost on me…I turned to my wife and asked, “I guess this means no cheeseburger tonight?”

So, yes, my priorities are changing. Over the next few weeks my doctors will determine the severity of the cancer and determine a plan for surgery and treatment, and then we head down what will likely be a long path to recovery. I am hoping to use tis site to keep family, friends, and colleagues updated on progress through the journey...

Oh, and I did enjoy a delicious cheeseburger that night...:
