Seven years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. For those of you who don't know my history, I will briefly tell you that, ultimately, I had a bilateral mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery (saline implants). This all happened between August 2009 and January 2010. I felt very fortunate that I discovered it early. It was very slow-growing, not aggressive and well-differentiated....all good things in the world of breast cancer. I was relieved that Dr. Perkins, my oncologist, told me that chemo was not warranted. My cancer was diagnosed shortly after Bob retired and he spent his first months of retirement going to every doctor's appointment and caring for me after 2 surgeries. He was there for me every step of the way. He said my breasts weren't as important as enjoying life with me; I knew he meant it. What could I do but marry him?!!!
