Hi, we are preparing this story for Robert (Bob) so you all are able to keep up to date with his cancer treatment. Robert had a sore on his right ear and was seen by his primary physician Mitch Poppen in Madison in early January who referred Bob to Dr Peter Kafznica of ENT Specialists Hospital in Sioux Falls. Bob had a biopsy on Jan 11th and that was negative. Bob was prescribed an antibiotic at that time. On Jan 23rd Robert returned to Dr Kafznica and the ear was evaluated to be recovering well. On Feb 1 Bob met with Dr Kafznica with the same progress report as on the 23rd. On Feb 8th, the ear was not progressing and Dr Poppen referred Bob to Avera Medical Dermatology center where Dr Scott Kingle on Feb 28th had more biopsies completed which were also negative. Bob continued to have pain with the ear. Bob was seen again at the Avera Dermatology Center for a possible skin cancer minor surgery, but after a biopsy was completed, it was found to be positive for cancer and a tumour was found by a Head scan. Bob was then referred to Mayo Clinic. Bob had multiple tests and evaluations at Rochester MN Mayo Clinic on March 22nd and 23rd. ENT Surgeon Dr K M Van Able and discussed treatment options. Bob was diagnosed to have a fast growing tumour which was recommended to be treated best by surgery by removing the right ear and grafting skin over the ear area followed by radiation treatment. Bob has to return to Rochester MN Mayo Clinic on March 27th for a full body MRI scan and to be evaluated by a general medicine doctor to see if he is able to go through surgery. Dr K M Van Able will review his MRI and surgery evaluation and meet Bob on Wed March 29 to discuss his treatment and possible surgery. Dr K Following the recovery stage, Bob would begin his possible radiation treatment . There will be more of an update each day beginning March 27th. Thank you.
