Robert Mathis

Roberts journey began 4 years ago.  He was sick all the time in an out of the hospital more times than I can count. Then we were told he needed surgery on his colon due to disease . So a surgeon performed the surgery to remove a large portion of his colon. Needless to say that this would not be the only surgery he had to endure. Everything went wrong, and he almost passed. But by the grace of God survived. After 53 days in the hospital he was able to come home, but this is not the end of his story. He was still very sick. We ended up taking him to another hospital and found that he was very sick, stomach was paralyzed. After months of going to this new hospital, we were advised to go to an even bigger hospital, as they could not provided what he needed. So on we went , from there he ended up with even more surgeries, infection and a stroke. Then they as well advised us to go somewhere else. So on to the next hospital. Every complication you could even remotely think has happened to him, 13 open abdominal surgeries, sepsis, E. coli, infected mesh, blood clots, respitory failure, gram positive group a strep, and numerous other infection to his body and open wound. Which leads us to the here and now.....Robert is on hospice now, and is dying. His intestines are dying. No more surgeries, no more trying to fix it. In fact this  week he now has C- diff! And in last four days has lost 30 lbs now.  This has been such a long hard and bumpy journey for our whole family! So much has happened it's hard to put it all in writing.  But through it all he  has been fighting so hard! He never gives up! He still wants to live! Sadly he won't. Each day is a blessing and he truly tries to be as positive as he can be. Our faith in the lord almighty , helps us through such hard times.
