Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rique has not been feeling well for sometime. He went to a doctor Monday, January 30, 2017, and was diagnosed with VERY low hemoglobin and the doctor sent him to the hospital via ambulance. After much prodding and probing and tests and more tests, Rique has been diagnosed with rectal cancer that has spread far up into his colon.
WHAT WE KNOW/Thursday, 2/2/17 @ 5:10 p.m.
> Surgery is NOT an option. > The cancer is in the lymph nodes in that area. > There is quite a bit of fluid in his lungs. They removed a lot (!) of liquid out of his right lung today and will do his left lung tomorrow. They are checking for cancer cells in the fluid. > A dermatologist looked at his "neck thing" yesterday and told Rique to make an outpatient appointment at the clinic (Baylor College of Medicine) when he gets out of the Hospital. NO. NO. NO. We are supposed to see the oncology team today/tonight and I plan to ask them to biopsy it NOW since we already know the dermatologist strongly suspects that it is cancer AND I am also going to request that a head scan be done.
I am so sorry that I can't reply to all the calls, texts, emails, carrier pigeons, etc. but I just can't. This CARING BRIDGE website is a wonderful way for me to send out updates about Rique AND for you to send him your thoughts and wishes, too. If you have something of a personal nature, you can email me (ibenzman@yahoo.com) or call me (713-734-4470). My sister, Ina, is coming to Houston Wednesday and she will help me keep up with the sight. As Rique gets more strength back, he might get involved with the sight, too. I PROMISE EACH OF YOU THAT HE WILL SEE EVERY MESSAGE FROM EVERY ONE - even if he doesn't have the strength to reply himself. LOVE TO YOU ALL❣❣❣
