Riley Joy Riley Joy

On Friday 2/16/18 We brought Riley to her pediatrician because she had a hard lump in her belly.  Her pediatrician decided we needed to get an ultrasound immediately because she was concerned. So later that afternoon we brought Riley to Umass for an ultrasound and we have been here since. That day was the worst day of our lives. We learned Riley has a large mass on her liver at that time they told us the initial thought is it is hepatoblastoma, which is a rare liver cancer. We had no clue what this was or what to do with this news besides being scared out of our minds. The next five days have been a fast lesson in cancer, types of cancer, chemo therapy, side effects, tests, mri’s, ct scans, biopsy, types of lines for chemo transfusions, talking to doctors, nurses, residents and doctors from children’s hospital. Riley has a long road ahead but JOY will overcome.
