On December 21, 2017 Rick was diagnosed with APL (acute promyelocytic leukemia). He was immediately hospitalized to begin treatment. He is in the low risk category and has an excellent 90-100% chance of remission. There are three phases of treatment - induction, consolidation and maintenance. His treatment consists of 2 hrs of intravenous arsenic trioxide daily and ATRA (all-trans retionic acid) pills. People are usually in the hospital for 30 days during the induction phase - this does not make Rick happy. Even once discharged we will have to stay in the Missoula area as he will have daily treatments. I’ve been staying in a hotel in Missoula to be near him. We’re figuring out our “new” normal and how best to work through this. All will be fine. We just have to work through it. I will do my best to update and look forward to hearing from all of you!
Blessings to all
Sue
