Welcome to our Caring Bridge website for our dad Richard Vega. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions at the hospital, visits are limited to my brothers. We are using this page to keep family and friends updated in one place during his time fighting the virus. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Please post words of encouragement, and ways he has impacted your life with journal entries. >>I want to be clear, no donations are warranted at the moment.  Ignore the spot/option for donations.

On November 9th our dad, Richard Vega, admitted himself to the hospital. This was after he experienced mild cold-like symptoms the week prior and receiving an incomplete COVID-19 test. Assuming that he likely had the virus, my brother Brian and his wife Katherine provided him with a pulse oximeter to monitor his oxygen levels and soon thereafter his oxygen levels fell below 90% which became concerning. Throughout the week of the 9th, his condition slowly worsened even after being administered the recommended treatments and supplemental oxygen while in the hospital.

On November 14th he was proactively put on a ventilator. Us brothers were able to FaceTime him and provide words of encouragement for him to gather the strength he would need to continue fighting prior to be put on the ventilator. He has now been on a ventilator requiring medical sedation for the last 3 weeks as of today battling COVID-19. He was always very careful since this all started with masking and always having a ton of anti-bacterial around him but still contracted the virus. This terrible virus has wreaked havoc on his body as he has battled continuous ups and downs. For someone who would be considered very active, in decent shape, has no preexisting conditions and is only 61 years young...everything we or read or understood about the possible severity of what could happen has been turned on its head. He showed his best improvement this past Tuesday before things spiraled on Wednesday. He is now on continuous dialysis while still on the ventilator as of this Thursday to assist his kidneys which have become severely stressed from complications caused by the virus. He has shown some improvement but is still critical and actively battling the virus. We desperately want him to get better so we can all see him and so he can be with and hug his grandbabies Ariana, Mia and Cruz (Brian and Katherine’s kids). He continues to fight to ensure that happens.

Visitors are not allowed at the hospital. I know many of you are concerned and we want to provide you updates on his condition. My dad/Richard always offered help to anyone who asked at the drop of the hat. This is our time to repay him for his kindness by proving any prayers well-wishes, or words of encouragement on this page. If you would like to send a card, please message me on FB or email me at ajvega85@gmail.com (mailto:ajvega85@gmail.com) and I would be happy to provide you my address so I can pass along a letter or card.

Thank you,

Andrew, Steven and Brian Vega
