DIck was admitted to the hospital May 19, 2020 with kidney and respiratory failure from sepsis, an overwhelming bacterial infection in his blood, which likely originated in his prostate. He spent six days intubated and sedated on a ventilator (May 20-26); the vent mechanically pumped oxygen to his lungs. Since being extubated on May 26, he has been suffering ICU delirium, which has left him agitated and confused. Physical, speech and occupational therapy has begun to help Dick regain his life.
