Hello all!
Thank you so much to everyone who has showed love, care, and support to Richard and our family over the past couple of weeks. It has been a whirlwind, ever since he began noticing vision changes, which eventually led to a brief hospital stay, a brain biopsy, and an eventual diagnosis of multifocal glioblastoma. This diagnosis has been incredibly challenging to grapple with, but due to the immense amount of support and guidance from friends and family in the medical field, Richard was able to receive consultations from some of the best doctors on the East coast!
He has decided on the following treatment plan: (1) a craniotomy to perform maximal safe resection of the tumors on Wednesday, August 3rd, to be performed by Dr. Friedman at Duke (2) several weeks of recovery after that to allow the wound to heal and (3) a six-week treatment series of radiation and oral chemotherapy at South Carolina Oncology Associates (SCOA) under the supervision of his radiation oncologist, Dr. Meyer, and his medical oncologist, Dr. Prophet.
Richard is headed up to Durham, NC on Tuesday, August 2nd where he will meet his team at Duke and prepare for surgery. We expect he will remain in Durham until Friday/Saturday, Aug 5th/6th at which point he will return home to Columbia for rest/recovery at home.
When radiation and chemotherapy starts, he will be taking oral chemo 7 days a week, and radiation M-Fr at SCOA. Each radiation appointment will take about 15 minutes.
Once all of these treatments get under way, Richard is expected to feel very fatigued and will need to rest and embrace stillness - which is very challenging for this on-the-go guy!! Please pray for patience, comfort, and rest during this time.
I will continue posting updates as there are things to share. In the meantime, if you would like to chat or ask questions, you are always welcome to email me at catherinecorso20@gmail.com or text/call at 803-394-9510. We hope that this centralized space for updates will be helpful in reducing stress/burden on Richard to provide updates and will allow him to receive all your love and support while he is going through treatment. Please drop a note to him, send well wishes, and keep him in your prayers.
