Update: June 6, 2020 This spring Renee felt a range of symptoms (fatigue, stomach upset, breathlessness, and random pains) but attributed them all to the stress of Covid and "sitting" so much in front of a computer. Mother's Day weekend things were noticeably worse, though, and she reached out to her internal medicine doctor. The following week she visited her internist in person, and they completed extensive blood work. That evening her internist called at home and urged her to go directly to the hospital - she was "hoping" Renee had a pulmonary embolism. Unfortunately, it was not an embolism, but cancer. Over the past few weeks Renee's had multiple scans, biopsies, and more blood work, and at present, we know the cancer is throughout her liver, bones, and stomach/GI junction. She recently started an oral medication and injections, and we are waiting to see if these are effective. Positive thoughts, notes, and prayers are all very much appreciated during this time. Lucy and Caroline simply know that "cancer is in Mommy's tummy and she needs to start back on cancer medication." We want to keep things as normal as possible for as long as possible, so please no "big emotions" in front of the girls. And, if you choose to tell your own children, please keep it simple and positive. We continue to be humbled by the love, kindness, support, and prayers you once again offer our family. In gratitude - The Garbers
February, 2016 A week after her internist found a lump in her left breast during her annual physical on February 3, 2016, Renee had a mammogram and biopsies of two suspicious masses and one lymph node. The masses and lymph node biopsies were positive for lobular breast cancer.
Anyone who knows Renee knows that the cancer is the heavy underdog in this battle. We have created this page to help keep friends and family updated on Renee's progress and provide a common forum where you can leave her words of encouragement and support through this challenging time.
We thank you so much for the outpouring of love and support you have sent our way just over the past 48 hours and ask that you please keep Renee and our family in your prayers.
