Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Beginning January 2017, Rebecca started having very heavy, painful and frequent menstrual cycles; this was very unusual for her. After 2 or 3 cycles, Rebecca sought out medical care. At first they thought maybe it was perimenopause and prescribed some hormones; which did not help at all. So over the next few months, the medical team tried to get a biopsy in the clinic; this was very painful for Rebecca. After the second try with inconclusive results (not enough of the right tissue); they decided to an actual exploratory surgery. This surgery showed a fibroid which was removed at the time; and allowed them to get a good biopsy sample. Meanwhile, all this time Rebecca has continued to bleed and have heavy cramping (hence the grumpy cat profile picture!).

Just last week the biopsy results came back after the VA sent them to the U of W for a second opinion. It has been confirmed, Rebecca has stage 1 uterine cancer. Yikes! The dreaded "C" word...however, the doctors believe we have caught it in the very early stages. The hopes are that it can be cured through a hysterectomy. Still uncertain if she will need further treatment, such as chemo or radiation.

As most of you know, Rebecca is a very busy person and it is difficult for her to sit still. So the next two months will probably be shear torture for her as she recovers from the surgery. Please visit the "Ways to Help" section of her page.

Thank you in advance for your friendship and support...it means the world to Rebecca and her family!
