Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.
I am writing this so that all of you are informed and in the loop. As you know, Dad (Ray), has had diabetes for close to 40 years. He has had a hard few years. Three years ago, he moved to Denver in the Tech Center to an Independent Living Facility, Quincy Place. He has done pretty well there up until about May of 2020. He was in the ICU 2 different times with diabetes related problems as well as infection related problems. Within all of this, a complication was the result that he came home to his apartment with a catheter. Thank the Lord, he was able to have a procedure done in August 2020 that alleviated the catheter! Since that time he has plugged along until recently.
In March 2021, he fell and hit his face on his counter. He stayed in the hospital for a couple of days because his potassium and creatinine levels were elevated, which affects his kidney function. He now is at a Stage 4 out of 5 kidney failure. He came home to his apartment and is slowing recovering. He has fallen a couple more times but has not injured himself enough to send him to the hospital. His doctor is concerned and has decided to put Dad on hospice care.
I do have Senior Helpers from his facility come in 3 times a day to check on him and his meals are delivered by the facility. That really helps but we are at a different point now. I’m not really sure what the next steps will look like but Paul and I are just trying to go with the flow.
I felt it important for Dad that you are informed and that if you have any messages, memories, etc. that you would like to send to him, I will relay those to him through Caring Bridge, here is the link. I will be posting to this site with further updates as they occur.
We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
