Thank you for visiting! This CaringBridge site was started as a way to share stories along Randy’s journey and stay in touch with the Brown family’s strong community of friends and family.
In 2000, Randy was diagnosed with a form of interstitial lung disease, hypersensitivity pneumonitis. After beating the odds and enjoying a fun-filled 15 years, the drugs he had been on finally began to lose their efficacy in slowing down the illness, and his health began declining in the Spring of 2015. At long last, it meant he would need a double lung transplant. The last few years have been an emotional roller coaster for Randy and the family, undergoing the excruciating and long process to qualify for the transplant, all the way through vetting two premiere programs on the East Coast (Duke) vs West Coast (UCLA).
Ultimately, the Browns made the difficult decision to move from the comforts of 10 years in Rye, New York, to San Diego, where Randy was immediately affiliated with the prestigious lung transplant program at the oh-so-apropos Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Most importantly, the comfort of being near family is priceless.
The tremendous support given to Randy and his family in the last few years has truly kept them going and their spirits up. The next steps are daunting, and they are bracing themselves for both upheavals and miracles. They ask for your prayers and thank you all for your ongoing support - the well wishes are amazing.
Please also note that the sole purpose of this website is to keep everyone updated on Randy, and the Browns are not soliciting contributions via the donation links, a permanent part of the CaringBridge template. For donations that have been given, and if you feel strongly about making a contribution, all will go straight toward supporting the UCLA Heart & Lung Transplant Department (https://giving.ucla.edu/hearttransplant
