I have set up this site to keep family and friends updated as to Rafael’s health progress as he battles covid-19.  Our family began showing symptoms of what we thought was a simple cold on 8/9 after returning from a family vacation.  We assumed it was not covid because we didn’t have a fever or loss of taste or smell.  A simple cough, runny nose and sinus headache.  Pam and kids felt crummy for a few days and then began to feel better.  Rafael was the last to show symptoms which happened to be the night before an important work trip on 8/15. He felt he would wear a mask to be cautious and get over it quickly like we had and go on his trip.  Unfortunately it worsened 2 days into the trip and he began to feel weak and his cough intensified.  What was supposed to be a 2 week trip was shortened to 6 days.  He flew home to get treatment.  We went to urgent care as soon as he landed.  He was given a covid test (results the next day) and an x-ray.  He was diagnosed at first with pneumonia and given antibiotics.  Pam was happy to help nurse him back to health overnight with medicine, gatorade, soup and plenty of rest.  Saturday as soon as we received the positive covid test result, we found a clinic in Portland that offered monoclonal antibody treatment. We had heard this helped treat covid patients to help them fight covid and prevent them from going to the hospital. We felt it was an answer to prayer that someone was available to do it when other clinics were closed for the weekend.  Rafael received the treatment, and we went home where he had a full day of rest and recovery.  We had an oximeter to watch his oxygen levels and checked regularly.  Sunday overnight the levels dropped to dangerous levels and we took him to the ER first thing in the morning.  Another blessing was that he was able to see a doctor and begin getting much needed oxygen right away.
