Rachel Millington Rachel's Fight!!

First post: Jul 15, 2022 Latest post: Apr 18, 2023

Thank you for visiting Rachel’s Fight! I am Deane (pronounced as Dean), Rachel’s husband.

We set this up to keep everyone up to date and I just realized the original story written on July 15 is completely outdated so this is the updated version (2/1/2023). If you want more detail than I’ll provide here, please follow through the progression of Journal Updates where we have left a running record of all that has happened. Also, please sign up for notifications if you want to stay updated as we create new journal entries. Feel free to donate to Caring Bridge but know that you do not have to do so.

This started at the end of February 2022. Only days after Rachel found out she was losing her job of 30-years, she began feeling a hard to pinpoint and describe pain mostly in her abdomen. We thought it was related to the stress of what she had gone through with her job. After our short spring break vacation in March 2022, she started seeking medical help. Following three missed diagnoses and three months, we finally coaxed them into allowing her to get a CT scan. That revealed a 7-centimeter mass in her liver. Additional scans and a biopsy confirmed it was what they refer to as “bile-duct cancer” in her liver, or cholangiocarcinoma. The worst possible type of liver cancer that they can't just surgically remove.

Other than possibly stress, we have no idea what caused it and probably never will. At the time her liver was and remains fully functional and there was/is no sorosis. All the rest of her organs are as healthy as they can be. As many of you know, Rachel is a true “health nut” and a marathon runner. Not many are healthier than she was before all this started. This truly took all of us by surprise. Even the doctors expressed surprised to find this in one so young and healthy as Rachel.

This began the continuing progression of the events and discoveries that are detailed by both of us in the journal entries you can find and read here. Although it has thus far been quite the nightmare that we wouldn’t wish on anyone, we still fully expect to reach the end with a success story to tell!

Your prayers, encouragement, positive quotes, and stories with happy outcomes are welcome. Please stay positive. We are!

For those that asked for it, we created a fundraiser site. Now, after the thousands of out-of-pocket dollars spent, we fully realize what a blessing this truly is! So, and only if you are able, please, feel free to contribute at the below site. My promise is that anything you contribute will 100% go towards all the out-of-pocket expenses caused by this.

Thank You!
