Rachel Mathes

Rachel(19) and her boyfriend Steven(20) were  in a horrific car accident on Thanksgiving day. Sadly, Steven passed away the next day as a result of head trauma.  Rachel survived though not unscathed.  Exploritory surgery revealed a ruptured spleen that had to be removed and a damaged kidney.her other injuries include a partially collapsed lung, fractured pelvis, shoulder blade, eye socket, 6 fractured ribs, small brain bleed, and a broken C1 and C2.    Rachel suffers no paralysis from the broken neck but will lose the ability to move her head in any direction; her skull was attached with rods and screws to her C2 and C3.  Rachel is recovering beautifully!  The original estimates given by doctors had her staying in the hospital around 6mo but after 35 days she is coming home!  Benefits for long term disability have been applied for but she won't actually get any income for some time.  Her/our parents Richard and Theresa have taken it upon themselves to keep up with Rachels bills so she can keep her life as normal as possible.  She has already lost her sweet Steven, job, and car.  We would love her to keep her home.  Theresa is on leave from work to be Rachels full time caregiver until she is able to care for herself.  The hospital bills haven't even started coming in yet, and even with insurance,  are going to be crazy high.      Money will be an issue for quite a while, but if you could please help alleviate some of that stress for Rachel and our parents it would be appreciated beyond words.
