It is with great sadness we have to build this site and share the story of Rachel’s cancer, but unfortunately, this is our reality. After feeling unwell for a couple of weeks, she went to the doctor thinking her gallbladder was the problem, but after extensive lab work and multiple scans, the doctors shared they think it may be cancer.

On July 5, she had a procedure done at Abbott Northwestern to relieve the symptoms she was feeling, as well as perform a biopsy in the area of concern. On July 6, it was confirmed Rachel has Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma—more commonly known as bile duct cancer. This cancer is rare and tricky, so after her case was reviewed by a panel of medical providers from Abbott, U of M Fairview, as well as MN Gastroenterology, it was everyone’s recommendation we go to Mayo Clinic.

Mayo has done extensive work with this rare cancer, so we are hoping and praying they will have thorough treatment options for Rachel. Treatment will likely include a combination of radiation, chemotherapy, and possibly a liver transplant.

We are shocked and scared, yet overwhelmed with the support we’ve received these last couple of weeks.  We hope this page will keep our loved ones updated on our long journey ahead.
