Dear Friends and Family of Rachel,
Welcome to this website! Rachel is so glad you're here! Some of you know that Rachel was diagnosed with a small (6mm) brain aneurysm a few weeks ago, and is facing surgery on February 16 to repair it. The good news is that she's expected to have a full recovery, with no future risk of a recurrence. The challenge is that her recuperation period is expected to be 6 weeks to 3 months. She'll likely be fatigued, headachy, and confused -- as well as bored and lonely at times! She will be in the hospital (St. John's/Mercy) for at least 3 days; her sister Anne will be staying with her for the next week or so, and within 2-3 weeks she'll hopefully be able to drive again. But she'll be home from work for 6-12 weeks.
We hope to keep this site updated frequently with journal entries, photos (if Rachel will allow them! smile...), and a planner-calendar which to YOU are gratefully welcome to add your name! We've posted some 'help requests' for the next month. Much is unknown at present about what Rachel will need; as that becomes more clear we'll continue to post requests for running little errands, bringing over a meal, coming over to do a load of laundry or some other light housework, and especially giving Rachel some 'hang time' and your company! She may tire easily or even fall asleep on you (so bring a book!), but she'll be thrilled and so grateful to see you. THANK YOU!
