For the past two years, Rachel has a pain in her back and blood in her urine. sometimes visible, other times just detectable in the lab. She went to all kinds of doctors who just kept ruling things out. Finally the doctors hit the end of their expertise and referred her to UTSouthwestern. It took UTSW just weeks to figure out something wasn't right. They did a biopsy of her right Kidney and found bladder cancer in the kidney. We were told the news on February 23rd of this year. we were told the kidney will have to be removed and that it was an aggressive form that will require chemotherapy. The chemotherapy drugs are called MVAC (four different chemo drugs) and it takes a full day to infuse. She will have 8 weeks of chemo followed by kidney removal.
