On Sunday, December 26 Preston fell and was found by his friends unresponsive. When he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), a team of neurosurgeons removed a large blood clot from his brain, put in a drainage device, and removed some of his skull to relieve pressure. His vital signs were strong, but he remained unresponsive.

Monday, December 27 Dale and I went to see him. We stood by the glass wall of his room and watched the nursing staff work. He had a positive test for Covid so we we’re not able to go in. We watched as an EEG technician put leads all over Preston’s head to check for seizure activity. Preston still was unresponsive to nurses’ stimulation.

Tuesday, December 28 We received encouraging news from the staff. Preston was able to give a small squeeze to a nurse’s hand on command. He opened his eyes just a crack for a moment in response to the nurse. The quarantine was canceled because we requested to have them research a positive test that was taken a couple of weeks before in Hayward. We gratefully drove over in the snow storm to hold Preston’s hands, talk to him, and pray over him. His right eye lid twitched as we talked to him. His right eye was swollen shut from the surgery.
