Corey finished high dose chemo with stem cell rescue (May 22, 2008) at CHLA. Now Corey is off treatment and scans in August 2012 showed no evidence of disease! Thank you for stopping by and please sign the guestbook. ... we love hearing from you!

Money raised on Corey's behalf $4,630.00(as of 4/7/08) Curesearch.org (Wilms Tumor Initiative) Thank you so much for your generosity helping to find the cure! Corey's blood drive on May 13th collected 84 pints of blood for CHLA!

Our precious baby Corey (Born 01/01/05) was diagnosed with Wilms' Tumor Stage 1, Favorable Histology on 01/01/06 (95% chance for cure a the time). He had a cantaloupe size, 2 pound tumor on his right kidney. This kidney was removed along with some lymphnodes. At the time, it was believed that the tumor had not spread and was contained. Corey immediately began chemotherapy (Vincristine & Dactomycin). This treatment was done in the clinic on an outpatient basis. He finished this 18 week protocol May 16, 2006. Unfortunately, to the surprise of everyone (only 5% chance of recurrence,)... Corey's cancer relapsed to the lungs and lower spine area (invasion into spinal canal between T12 - L3) 08/27/06. Biopsy of lung tumors confirmed Wilms' tumor Favorable Histology. Unfortunately, we didn't know about the tumor on his spine until 2 weeks later (9/7/06). Corey was in extreme pain and finally, a MRI revealed the spinal tumor. The invasion from the tumor around Corey's spinal cord caused temporary paralysis from the waist down. He then began the Wilms' Tumor Relapse protocol which included radiation (10 Rounds to Lower Spine (finished 9/19/06), 13 Rounds to Lungs (9/25/06-10/11/06)). He also received chemotherapy (a 24 week Protocol) which was completed Feb. 14,2007. This protocol consisted of treatments done in the hospital on an inpatient basis every three weeks for about a 5 day stay at a time. He received many types of stronger chemotherapy medications: Doxorubicin, Cyclophosphamide, Etoposide, and Vincristine. Also, one hospital stay he received Ifosofamide and Carboplatin which he did not tolerate well and caused his bladder to bleed. Corey also received numerous blood and platelet transfusions. As of 11/06, Corey regained full function of his bladder and bowels. He is able to crawl and stand with support. A neurologist has told us he will regain the ability to walk. 11/06 Tests show no evidence of disease. April 3, 2007 - Clear scans!! May 4, 2007 - After nine long months, Corey began walking today!!! September 4, 2007 - Clear Scans!! December 7, 2007 - Scans revealed lung recurrence (2nd relapse) Jan 7, 2008 - Started Chemo (Topotecan) Two weeks, everyday M-F, then 2 weeks off to recover. A total of 4 cycles, ending April 11, 2008. Feb. 22, 2008 - CT scan show two nodules shrunk by 1/2. Currently 11 and 12 mm in size. Feb 28, 2008 - Corey's Stem Cells are collected. (5.4 million per kilo). C/T April 24, 2008- Showed more shrinkage of two lung nodules. Lung surgery April 28th.- Both nodules removed and look necrotic (dead) per Dr. Stein our surgeon. May 12th C/T showed No Evidence of Disease! May 13th MRI showed NO Evidence of Disease! May 14, 2008 - High Dose Chemo May 22, 2008 - Stem Cell Rescue (34 days in isolated room in the hospital :( June 18, 2008 - Home! July 17, 2008 - Surgery for Central line removal And then, Corey and his family lived happily ever after!
