Mia Soto Prayers for Princess Mia

January 28, 2017...The day our whole world got turned upside down.

I can still remember the Thursday prior to finding out Mia's diagnosis. My girl and I decided to go shopping, like we usually did when the boys had school.  While trying  some shirts on Mia, I noticed her right side, around the rib area, a bit distended. I was concerned for a minute  but didn't think  much about it. Friday comes around and my husband was flying in from being out of town for the week, I showed him my concern on Mia's little body, I could see the concern in his face as well. Saturday morning, we decided to run  Mia to the doctor to put our minds at ease. We were planning on taking the kids to Sea World later that day  but needed to hear from the pediatrician that my  Mia was ok...or so we thought.

The run to the doctor was definitely not what we expected. After an x-ray and a CAT scan, we were being transferred to John Hopkins All Children's Hospital  by ambulance almost 2 hours away from home because they saw a mass on her kidney. I can still remember the radiologist saying "Your whole life just changed!" I went numb......

Monday strolls around and all I knew was Mia was having surgery on what they confirmed was a  tumor on her right kidney. Within 72 hours a melon sized tumor was found and removed along with her kidney and a power port was placed for her chemotherapy and radiation treatments. My four year old princess was diagnosed with Stage 3 Favorable Histology Wilms Tumor........Cancer!!

"When you hear the word Cancer, its as if someone took the game of life and tossed it in the air. All the pieces go flying. They now land on a new board. Everything has shifted, you don't know where to start. "     Regina Brett

Doctor visits, Chemo, radiation was now part of our new normal, or at least it had to be. We know Mia has a long road ahead of her but her bravery and strength gives us the strength we need to fight this with her.  With God on our side my Mia will beat this!!
