Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Pike became ill the weekend before Thanksgiving 2020. He was dizzy and weak starting Saturday. Sunday morning he woke feeling faint and had a 101 temperature. He was taken to immediate care that morning and sent home with a diagnosis of vertigo and some medicine to help with nausea and dizziness. Later that morning, Pike began vomiting. He continued taking the vertigo meds and they did not help.  Around 3 AM Monday morning, he woke up weaker than ever -too weak to make it to the bathroom. He used an empty plastic garbage can to urinate in and when I checked on him a little later, Pike's fever had gone up to 102.5 and his urine looked very strange. We went to the ER where I described the urine to the ER doctor and they began by taking his temperature and drawing labs. The urine was the red flag that led to the tests Pike needed to receive immediate diagnosis and care. The ER doctor informed me that it was leukemia and he had sent the labs to a hematologist at University of Chicago and Pike would be transported to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago to be cared for by a team of specialists. He was diagnosed with ALL. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

I will do my best to enter in updates as much as possible.
