Dear Family and Friends-

Some of you know, and others are finding out that Phyllis suffered a stroke in early June.  We believe it is from a possible side effect of the blood thinning medicine she was on, which resulted in a significant bleed in her brain.  Of the two kinds of strokes, blood clot or bleed, hers is the less common.  The situation is very serious and she has lost functioning of her left side.  After about a week in the hospital in Santa Rosa, she graduated to an intense and well regarded rehabilitation facility with Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo, CA.

She is undergoing a minimum of 3 hours of therapy, Occupational, Speech and Physical daily.   We’d like to use this site to stay connected with family and friends, provide updates and also to share with Phyl the encouragement and support from those that love her.  This will be a long process, as it will take time for the blood in her brain to be reabsorbed.  Over time that process will relieve pressure and allow her to gain more control of her left side.  We have seen and continue to be hopeful of daily improvements.

There is not a specific prognosis, each patient is different and assessments happen twice weekly.  She will likely go home in a wheelchair within a few weeks, needing 24 hour assistance.

Phyllis is working hard everyday and she gets tired, as you could imagine, but she enjoys visits, cards and even calls on her cell phone.

Her current address is:  Kaiser Permanante

                                          975 Sereno Dr.

                                          Room 320-A

                                            Vallejo, CA 94589

Her siblings and family are rallying but it takes a village.  Many blessings to you all.
