In an effort to keep Phil's many friends, far and wide, abreast of his situation we have created this CaringBridge page. Please forward this link to his friends and post memories, pictures and messages of encouragement for Phil who will read it as often as possible.
Welcome to Team "Big Bro"!
First and foremost, you will see opportunities to make a donation all over this website. These donations go to the website and not to Phil.
Phil ,or as family and friends call him "Big Bro" , suffered a fall from a deer stand on Friday morning. He was in New York State at our family hunting cabin getting ready for his favorite time of year. For all who know our dad, nothing gives him more pleasure than his time spent in Walton. Tuning up the four wheelers, cleaning the deer stands, sighting in the rifles and preparing the house and grounds before the "Super Bowl" of hunting is a labor of love. As Big Bro was cleaning the leaves out of one of the deer stands, a task he has done countless times, the stand collapsed beneath him and he fell to the ground. In nothing short of a miracle, his son Philip happened to be with him and called 911 immediately.
The response from the local EMTs was amazing and our father was airlifted to Wilson Memorial in Binghamton, NY. Due to internal injuries, he had emergency surgery to remove his ruptured spleen. He remains in ICU and sustained a spinal cord injury. We could not be more grateful for the amazing doctors, nurses and staff caring for my father. This team has been relentless making sure he is comfortable all the while keeping his spirits up with some humor. Our ultimate goal is to get our father flown to Robert Wood Johnson in New Jersey to be closer to home.
It has been an excruciating few days for our family but thankfully, we are seeing little improvements each day. The outpouring of love and support we have received from family and friends has been completely overwhelming. In this season of Thanksgiving, our family gives thanks to family and friends like you, for your continued thoughts and prayers for our father as we work our way through his recovery. All our love, The Schwier Family
