Welcome to our CaringBridge site. Greg and I created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support during this time when it matters most. Knowing how busy all of Dad's friends, family and loved ones are. Calling and emailing each person individually can be a tedious process. This site allows family and friends to be updated, communicate, and be supportive on a regular basis. As you know, he has been diagnosed with Alzheimers for several years. We can now add Dementia to that diagnosis. He was unable to care for himself, take direction and control his emotions any longer. He posed a risk to himself and others around him. Therefore admitted into the VA during the Christmas holiday. He needs 24 hour nursing care, which he is getting from the skilled nurses and doctors they have. The whole team at the VA are working diligently to make sure he has the proper medications to manage his disease without the negative side effects. Unfortunately, the Alzheimer's/Dementia will not get any better. It will progress from here and managing it and him is what is most important. This disease really took hold and changed almost everything about him, but at times, he still has his old charm. The staff is very welcoming and kind at the VA. They very much care about their patients, which I see on my visits. The goal is to get him moved into a great care facility, but he must be stable before that happens. (Update) After a lot of due diligence, he is now at a qualified convalescent hospital. Keep him in your prayers daily. Please stay in touch and check for updates. Contact me, Sheila or Greg if you have any questions. Your support is appreciated. Visits are welcomed.
