Patty had been experiencing more tiredness and worsening stomach issues than usual after her recent defibrillator update at the hospital.  We took her to the ER and she was admitted for tests and diagnostics where they discovered she has a more rare type of cancer called neuroendocrine tumors (carcinoid syndrome).  This is a type of cancer that is typically slow growing.  It can begin in the digestive tract, lungs or others parts of the body, and can (but not always)  spread to other parts of the body. It can be difficult to diagnose since the symptoms are similar to many other health problems.

After undergoing emergency surgery where they removed a portion of her small intestine she came home, however her symptoms worsened.  They've subsequently discovered she also has two ulcers which they are now treating and for which she is feeling some relief.  

Over the next days and weeks  she will be going through more testing and diagnostics by her oncology care team.  Patty, Jon and her children will then be meeting with the oncology care team to go over all the results and decide on her treatment plan.

Patty's very strong faith is a comfort to her, and an inspiration to all of us who know and love her. We are encouraging Patty to conserve her strength so she can have the best recovery possible.   Thoughts and prayers and words of encouragement will be crucial to her recovery so we invite you to use this site for updates and well wishes.
