Peggy is recovering from major brain surgery. She had an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).  An AVM is an abnormal tangle of blood vessels which prevents normal blood flow through part of the brain. This caused a brain bleed. In addition she had a subdural hematoma, probably as a result of a fall following the brain bleed.

Due to the brain swelling, she had a craniotomy which is a surgical opening made in the skull to relieve pressure.

She is currently in a coma as her brain tries to heal.  There are no specific timelines for recovery as the brain takes time to heal.

Thank you to everyone for your messages and concern for Peggy these past few days. We cannot express how much your support has helped our family to cope and handle this very difficult situation. It just reenforces how incredibly special Peggy is and how many lives she has impacted with her spirit and friendship.

At this stage, the ideal situation is to keep the rest of her body as stable as possible without any additional stress or complications from secondary issues related to the surgery. Many times the nurses have commented to me that no news is good news. Time, faith, and patience will be needed.

The nurses and doctors have also made it clear that we are in a marathon, not a sprint, in regards to recovery.  Any real, tangible progress that we are all hoping to see (consciousness, movement, etc.)could take weeks or months.

Again, the brain can be very slow to heal but it can absolutely do it as long as we keep her resting.

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers as there is a very long way to go and she is still in a very critical spot, literally fighting for her life at this moment.

At this critical time in her survival, we cannot have any visitors at the hospital - for her safety and recovery.  Also, flowers are not allowed in Peggy’s room at this time. When the time comes we will certainly let everyone know so please respect this request in her best interest.

Also, please help us by sharing this information with other friends and family to help us keep everyone updated.

In the meantime, keep sending all of those prayers, well wishes, and positive vibes our way!

Love to all!
