Spencer was diagnosed with high risk mds (myelodysplastic syndrome) in January 2017. This was first diagnosed by Dr Copur in Grand Island and then Dr Gundabolu at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. MDS is a blood cancer that affects the immune system. At this point in time this particular cancer is not curable. The only way to treat it through a bone marrow/ stem cell transplant. To date he has since been through 5 rounds of chemotherpy and 3 bone marrow biopsies. He had to go through numerous tests and passed all but one. At the time I am writing this he is getting a full tooth extraction. We will find out Monday the exact date he will be admitted into the hospital for the transplant. As of now it will be July 17, July 19 or July 26. Thank you to everyone for all the support going through this journey. I will post updates on his progress.
