It was about mid-October when I began experiencing abnormal fatigue and a cold I just couldn’t kick. Around Thanksgiving I developed a gland infection in my neck and mouth. The week of Christmas I was finally referred to a hematologist and they performed a bone marrow biopsy on December 23. On December 27 I was diagnosed with CMML, a rare form of Leukemia. CMML affects approximately 3 in 100,000 people a year and 9 out of 10 CMML patients is over the age of 60.
I am feeling strong, optimistic and ready to do battle. I will face this challenge head on and without fear, just as I have everything else in my life. With the support of my family, friends and colleagues I WILL BE A CANCER SURVIVOR.
