Paul Funk

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

In September 2015 Paul was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). This disease is terminal and 40,000 Americans are diagnosed with IPF every year yet it is not well known. Upon his diagnosis Paul began reading anything he could find on the subject of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and made it his mission to raise awareness. Anyone who knows him knows he likes to talk and  he would talk about IPF to anyone who would listen.  In September 2016  Paul was told he would need a lung transplant. He asked if he could take another trip to his home in Calabash, NC before he started the tedious process of getting on the transplant list. His Doctors gave the okay so Paul and I spent 6 weeks enjoying our beloved beach house and even  took a trip  to North Bradenton Beach, Florida.  When we got back to Baltimore, we started the process to get on the list and 8 long months later he was placed ont the National Transplant Registry. True to form, Paul began researching touching stories of organ donors and transplant recipients. We as a family would often talk about organ donation and how amazing it is that people can leave behind a life-saving gift. We encourage everyone reading this to register to be an organ donor at organdonor.gov
