Her Fight is Our Fight!
Paula is an incredible 43 year-old woman. She is strong, brave, selfless, athletic, and the best daughter, sister, sister-in-law, niece, aunt, friend anyone could hope to have in their lives. Paula radiates happiness always!
On June 22, 2020 Paula heard the words you never want to hear, "You. Have. Cancer." She had been feeling discomfort over the last couple of months and went to visit her doctor. They sent her for a colonoscopy which revealed a large cancerous mass. The MRI revealed that it is rectal cancer; it could be stage 2 or 3. The doctors won’t know until after surgery. One good thing in Paula’s favor, the cancer hasn’t spread to any other organs.
If you know Paula, she leads a healthy lifestyle. She is very active and loves to be outside, enjoying the beach, playing soccer, or just going for walks. She is also well-connected to her local church and is involved in serving and leading her church. This diagnosis is very unexpected, and she has a long road ahead.
Treatment plans have been finalized. The doctors are planning to use a combination of radiation and chemotherapy to reduce the size of the tumor. Following this treatment, Paula will have surgery to remove what remains as well as several chemo treatments. This will be a year-long process.
We do not know all the details, especially the costs. Due to the pandemic, Paula has lost hours at her waitressing job. Loss of income is definitely adding to her stress right now. We do know that Paula has an insurance deductible to meet, and in the coming months, she won’t be able to work due to the COVID environment.
Paula is in need of our help during the most trying and difficult time of her life. She is a fighter, and although her world has been turned upside down, she has been so brave throughout it all. Paula is ready to fight and beat this cancer! Please help our dear friend as she battles this terrible disease. All funds raised will go directly to her. Any amount, large or small, will help and is greatly appreciated.
