My mom, Patty, has what is called a Mitral Valve Prolapse. This is when one of the valves in her heart are not working correctly, and blood does not flow efficiently through the heart. This makes her heart work extra hard to keep her blood moving. She has known about this condition for more than 30 years. This year at her annual check up with her Cardiologist she found out that she now requires a surgical repair of her heart valve. This explains her symptoms she often gets tired easily and feel very short of breath. Tomorrow morning she is going to have open heart surgery at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. I am going to use this website to keep her family and friends updated on her progress during her recovery.
