Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.


The Bani family has taken on a new challenge, Breast Cancer.   Well, not exactly voluntarily taken on this new challenge,  but instead kind of unexpectedly thrown into this new challenge.  But, no matter how we got here, we appreciate your visiting this website and the outpouring of love, prayers, and support.  


In June 2017, Kevin received the bad news that his diabetes was not being managed effectively through medication and would need to start daily insulin shots. This was a wake up call for both of us.  Kevin's next appointment to start the insulin was in August 2017, so we decided to make some changes in our lifestyles to improve our health.   We joined Weight Watchers, learned better nutrition and became more active. We were having success with Weight Watchers, both feeling better and losing weight.   As a female, the weight I was losing was coming off my chest first, which I really didn't mind.  


I'm guessing that this is the reason I noticed a hard lump in my right breast while taking a shower in late August.  I didn't think too much of it, since there is no history of breast cancer in my family.  But that week I went into the clinic to get my doctor's opinion.  She didn't seem too concerned,  especially after going through the many risk factors for breast cancer, of which, I had none.  It was probably a cyst.  Just to be on the safe side, and since it was 18 months since my last mammogram, we decided to do another mammogram and ultrasound.  With these tests they determined my lump was not a cyst, but they were not sure what it was. On to a biopsy.  


The biopsy confirmed I had Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma, probably stage 1 and low grade. 


This is how our new challenge began.  Our next steps will probably be surgery and radiation, but that will be determined after the surgery.   Paige and I (the two computer literate members of our family) will keep this website updated throughout our journey.
