This is George writing on Patrick's behalf. Just before we left for our annual St. Barts stint Patrick was diagnosed with emphysema and lung cancer including a small 3.4 cm mass on the anterior of his lung. Anterior is good because it makes the tumor more accessible to laproscopic surgery. We scrambled to see both a cardiologist and pulmonologist before proceeding on the trip. Good news is that we went and had a wonderful, peaceful visit. A biopsy and subsequent tests could not be arranged until this week anyway. The latest info is that he has NSCLC (non small-cell lung cancer) of the squamous variety. He'll see an oncologist, ideally this week, who will stage it and determine the best path of treatment. Good News - No brain involvement (where lung cells often travel). It is also good news to be non small-cell. We'll keep you posted as we learn more...
