A year ago, Patrick was referred to Mayo Clinic to have a calcified tumor on this brain stem evaluated.  The tumor, which was very unique to the doctor's at Mayo, was found to be non-cancerous and VERY slow growing.  This was great news and Patrick was told that the risks of surgery, at this point, far outweighed his mild symptoms. 
     Fast forward a year to his wedding and Patrick is suddenly having more severe, stroke like symptoms such as facial paralysis and problems with balance.  A return visit to Mayo Clinic two weeks ago discovered that the tumor has grown more significantly than anticipated and is now impeding on critical areas of the brain. On November 28th, Patrick will undergo a long and complicated surgery to remove the tumor.  Recovery will be slow and he will be unable to return to work for several months. Recovery will include physical therapy, speech and occupational therapies, chemo and radiation and follow up visits to Mayo and possibly additional surgeries to help with facial and vocal cord paralysis.   (Update-to date he has had 2 brain surgeries, vocal cord procedure, facial reanimation surgery consisting of 4 major parts and is currently receiving chemo and radiation)
Patrick is someone that is always willing to lend a hand and help others.  His generosity and cheerful attitude are infectious.  
He is an awesome dad and a wonderful husband.
