For Patricia, what started out as a small biopsy last summer turned into a quite a lengthy medical battle.  The site of that small biopsy never healed, the wound grew and became infected.  The battle with the stubborn wound was compounded by other medical issues and Patricia was hospitalized several times over the past year.  They have since diagnosed her with a vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) infection, an antibiotic resistant infection.  And, as of July, they also found cancer that spread to her liver.  Due to her fragile health, they are unable to do the necessary tests to determine the primary cancer site nor are they able to treat the cancer at this time.  However, she has had an amazing medical team working on her wound and this past summer it has healed significantly!  Currently, her treatment is focused on healing her wound, keeping her nutrition up to help her fight and managing her pain.
