Friends and family of Pat, Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep you updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.
We ask for your prayers for our mother and your friend Pat. Our mom was hospitalized on Wed, January 9th with a diagnosis of multiple myeloma. This development came as a complete shock to us, as she was extremely active and appeared healthy until Christmas Eve when she complained of a backache, which she attributed to decorating her house for Christmas. Her oldest daughter Ann and her husband Jay stayed with her at home, and later, Bob, Paul and Lisa. Over the next 2-3 days it wasn’t improving, but actually becoming significantly worse. Lumbar spine X-rays showed some mild compression fractures, so Paul got an emergency MRI scheduled at his hospital which showed bone marrow irregularities throughout the spine. Blood tests showed anemia, low platelet count and an elevated white blood cell count. We assisted her at home while we awaited a diagnosis. She required a walker to ambulate, didn’t tolerate the pain medication well, and started becoming confused. On Wed January 9, her doctor called us with a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, and instructions to get her to the hospital immediately to begin a triple regimen chemotherapy and dialysis to treat renal failure that the myeloma was causing. She was admitted to St. Bernardine Medical Center, got a temporary catheter placed for dialysis, and her pain is being controlled, but she’s very weak and tired. Her children are taking turns accompanying her at the hospital and are praying and hoping for the best. We will be updating this site with her condition and any new information as it becomes available. Please say your prayers for Pat.
Ann, Bob, Paul, Lisa, Karen, Kevin, and Mary Reisch
