God grant me serenity, courage, wisdom, and acceptance.
Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.
Hey everybody, this is Pat's oldest daughter Lanie, and with the help of my family, I'm going to try my best to keep everybody updated on Mama's journey with ovarian cancer and her treatments as well as how she's doing. If you know Mama well at all, you know that sheis a strong, determined, pig-headed(at times) woman and that's what we love about her!!
So, let's start this entry. Back in February, Mama went to the doctor because her wrists and ankles were bothering her. After a few referrals to rheumatologists, and oncologists resulting in finding the reasons for the wrist and ankle pain, she was sent for follow-up MRIs to determine whether she had multiple myeloma. The results were that she does have smoldering myeloma, but that an ovarian cyst that had been discovered a couple of years ago had grown a great deal in that time and had to come out. She was sent to Emory to meet with an amazing doctor there who determined that it needed to be taken out immediately. So, on November 2, 2018, she went in to have it removed with absolutely no thought of it being anything other than routine. However, much to Dr Kahna's and our surprise, it was malignant. Biopsies were done, and on this past Monday, she went in for the post-op results of the biopsies. We were thrilled to say the least! The cancer had not spread, and is classified as stage 2 ovarian cancer. This is absolutely unheard of!! According to Dr Kahna and my son Brent, ovarian cancer is never caught at stage 2! Ultimately, she will have six rounds of chemo, one every 3 weeks. Yes, she will feel bad for a few days and she will lose her hair, but she will be fine!!! She goes to her regular oncologist in Warner Robins tomorrow to set up her appointment to get her port and schedule her first chemo treatment. Mama is very upbeat and optimistic as we all are, because as you all know, we all tend to follow her lead! Please keep us all in your prayers. She's proof that they work!! I will do my very best to keep everybody posted, and please feel free to invite anybody that is interested to her page. We will take all of the prayers we can get.  Thank you for visiting our page and for loving our mama! She's an amazing woman!!!!!
