Paisley Gerasimovich

Hello family and friends. We set up this page to help keep everyone informed as we work through this journey. We will be in Delaware at DuPont Children's Hospital  to have both of Paisley's upper and lower legs corrected and straightened. With Achondroplasia (her type of dwarfism), it is relatively common to have bowed legs straightened. It is not as common to need the upper legs (femurs) corrected, but because she does have a certain degree of deformity in those bones as well, she will be having those done too. She will have her first leg surgery on Wednesday, May 30th, and her second leg surgery on Wednesday,  June 6th. We are anticipating being in Delaware for 4-6 weeks while we make sure that her bones are in the correct alignment before we come back home for her to recover. She will be fitted with plates and screws in her upper leg bones, and will have external fixators (metal cages with pins to help align the bones) on her lower legs. She will need to have the fixators for 3-5 months until the healing is complete. She will have a long recovery before she is back to 100%, but the end result will be that she will be pain free when walking in her day to day life. Her pain has gotten worse in the last couple of years, and has been keeping her from doing things that she enjoys. This will be an emotional journey for our family, but we also know that she has touched so many people throughout the years, and we wanted to have a way to keep everyone up to date on her progress.
