While on vacation in Florida, Paddy developed a bad cold and refused to eat for about 24 hours. We brought him to the ER in Fort Myers where they noted he had difficulty breathing. They did a chest x-Ray and diagnosed him with pneumonia and admitted him. While in intensive care, blood work came back indicating a probable leukemia diagnosis. From that moment, it was a crazy 24 hours of trying to get Paddy stable and arrange for transportation back to Chicago. Through the wonderful work of the amazing staff at Golisano Children's Hospital in Fort Myers and the Angel MedFlight team who provided us with a free medical flight, Paddy and Sarah arrived at Lurie Children's in Chicago at about 1am on Dec. 21st. Mark met us at the hospital since he was still in Chicago when this all happened. We are now settling in and working on getting an official diagnosis and treatment plan.
