On July 30, 2021, Patrick fell off his skateboard while flying downhill in San Francisco. He sustained a near-fatal head injury and was rushed to the nearby SF General's Brain Trauma Unit where he underwent an emergency surgery that saved his life. He was put into a medically induced coma and stayed that way for three weeks.
He spent nearly 8 months in hospitals. He went from being in sedated in a coma and fighting for his life to once again talking, eating, and fighting to get out of the hospital. During the early fall of 2022, he stood on his own for the first time. He makes constant efforts to recover his former self.
His journey has been at once beautiful and torturous. It has also opened so many doors into the world of belief, healing, family, friendship, love, and hope. He has endured pain, setbacks, bad news and more to climb this mountain of recovery.
These entries are a gift for Patrick. He doesn't recall his accident or the first several months in hospital. In reading these entries one day, he'll see how many people came together to love, support, and care for him.
