Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
Otis had a melanoma that was completely excised about 10 years ago on his heel of his foot. He recently found out that a second growth on the same leg was also melanoma, so has had a PET scan on Feb 16, 2016 to look for further cancer.  This test shows areas of increased metabolic activity. Since cancer cells rapidly divide they show a "lighted up pattern" when the patient is given glucose. The good news is that when they took out the second cancer, it looks like they were effective in removing it. When the pathologist examined it, there were wide margins all around the cancer. However the PET scan showed two areas that lit up. There was one on the liver and an area of possible concern in the mediastinum, the center of the chest under the breast bone.
