Hello dear friends and family. I appreciate the support, love and care each of you have shown as I navigated the many tests that has brought me to my cancer diagnosis. And, I want to thank you each and everyone in advance for me as I navigate this journey. So here's my medical story.........at the beginning of this past summer, I began having stomach troubles, at the time I thought well, lots of people go through stomach issues at some point in their lives, I guess it's my turn. So off to the pharmacy to get over the counter medication and went on my merry way. The meds helped a lot and I felt I'd gotten a handle on what I presumed was just a temporary problem. In September, Jim and I went on vacation to Italy to celebrate our 30 year wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful trip! We visited Rome, Florence and Tuscany. It was a trip of a life time, which we throughly enjoyed. After we returned from Italy, my stomach started to flare up again, having a lot more pain, and nausea. I went to see my Doctor who was certain I the problem was with my gallbladder. The ultrasound showed no gallbladder problem, however what was picked up during the ultrasound was the identification of three lesions on the liver. Then I had an MRI to understand the liver lesions. MRI results showed innumerable masses in both the right and left lobes defined as highly suspicious metastatic liver cancer. Then I had further gastro-testing and finally a liver biopsy. Unfortunately the biopsy results showed that I have Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) which has spread/metastasized to the liver. I am getting ready to start chemotherapy. First up is getting a port/cath inserted and CT scan baseline. Then onto my chemo schedule, which I expect to have end of week. For those of you who may remember, Cholangiocarcinoma is the cancer that my mother passed away from in May, 2014. I am pursuing a genetic work up due to the parent/child incidence here. More to come on that too. Love to you all! Olivia
