Greetings-Our mom, Norma Czarnik, has been through quite an ordeal these past few weeks. She had laminotomy surgery on August 16th for epidural abscesses on her spine at T6-T8, T9-T10, L1-L2. There was significant compression of the spinal cord space, but not significant compression on the spinal cord itself. The surgery required laminotomies at three (3) different levels. Mom was unusual in that she had three distinct isolated loculations and these normally occur as isolated abscesses down in the lumbar spine. There was concern that she might lose the use of her legs but, thankfully, that did not happen. Our sister-in-law Becky is her Care Coordinator---a real gift, since this is what Becky does (expertly) for a living. It's been a rough ride. She's been in a great deal of pain after, essentially, 3 back surgeries, but that is improving. She hasn't really eaten in over a week, but that, too, is improving. Her children & friends have been with her, which makes things much more tolerable.
