About 6 weeks ago, Mom was diagnosed with Gastric Esophageal Junction Cancer (GEJ). This is the area where the esophagus and the stomach join together. She was experiencing many symptoms such as pain/difficulty when swallowing, coughing, nausea, unintentional weight loss, severe fatigue, etc. Her biggest challenge has been malnourishment -- due to the cancer. She has a feeding tube, but it's been a struggle finding the right nutrition for her. Not to mention, in the middle of all this, she fell and broke her leg. Fortunately, it is healing well. She is under the care of a home health team (including nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists).
The next couple of weeks should shed light to many unanswered questions we've had regarding her prognosis and treatment. Teddy and I have the upmost trust & faith in her medical team...and it is a team! We are attacking this one day at a time and are comforted with the knowledge that God is in control. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support! We know she has so many loved ones that are concerned and care for her. We will use this site and try to keep it as up to date as possible. This also allows us to focus all our energy in caring for Mom.
