As many of you know Nikki was diagnosed with a rare form of cervical cancer in early January, called Adenocarcinoma (of cervix).

Nikki went to the OBGYN on January 14th to have her IUD replaced.   When the doctor went to remove the IUD she found what she thought was a benign fibroid or polyp. They got it biopsied to be sure and on January 22nd she received the devastating news that she had cervical cancer.  The specific form of cancer she has been diagnosed with is Adenocarcinoma. Adenocarcinomas are cancers that develop from glandular cells. Cervical adenocarcinoma develops from the mucus-producing gland cells of the endocervix. There is only a 5% chance of this type of cancer being found in the cervix.  At this point Nikki's care was transitioned to the Froedtert Medical College of Wisconsin OBGYN Oncology team (in Milwaukee).

Nikki's surgical team decided that a radical hysterectomy would be the best first course of action.  Nikki had her hysterectomy on February 11, 2021. The surgery was successfully performed.  During her surgery other biopsies were performed which unfortunately confirmed that both ovaries and one fallopian tube also tested positive for cancer.  She received one bit of good news, none of the lymph nodes tested positive for cancer. Because of the spread outside the cervix to more than one area the doctors stated her cancer is considered Stage 4. Nikki did ask what her survival rate is.  As if the Stage 4 was not hard enough to hear, the doctors said because her cancer is rare they said it is hard to give a number but if they had to guess, it is about 15%.

Nikki will begin Chemotherapy on March 8, 2021. After a few chemotherapy treatments they will determine if radiation will be necessary as well as any other potential course of treatment.

Nikki is determined to fight and beat the odds.  She has way too much to live for - Building her house with Kevin, playing with her beloved black lab, Pepper as well as future doggies, hanging out with friends and family and just LOVING LIVING!

Nikki & Kevin are so thankful already for the meals, gas cards and care packages that have been received.  The outpouring of love is just amazing.
Thank you for all your continued prayers &  love.  They sure are needed.
